What: Shares of Amira Nature Foods (NYSE: ANFI ) were looking rotten today, falling as much as 12% after reporting earnings this morning.
So what: The Indian specialty rice maker said adjusted earnings moved up to $0.24 from $0.20 a year ago as revenue increased 10% to $140.2 million. Earnings were in line with estimates, while revenues topped expectations of $133.9 million. The company also guided sales in line with estimates as it sees revenue of $480 to $507 million for fiscal 2014, starting this quarter. Shares of Amira actually opened 4% higher but fell shortly after opening, for reasons that are unclear. On the earnings call, analysts brought up concerns about guidance and international expansion.
Now what: With only six months under its belt as a publicly traded company, Amira shares could have a bright future ahead of them. Unlike most IPOs or some other foodmakers that investors are excited about, shares are unbelievably cheap at a P/E of just 7.5. I'd say that makes Amira worth a closer look, as Basmati rice and other Indian foods are gaining popularity and elsewhere as people turn to healthier diets. Taco Bell/AP There will be a new player in the escalating battle for breakfast on Thursday when Yum Brands' (YUM) Taco Bell rolls out its new morning menu, and the stakes are huge. McDonald's (MCD) is the name that most people associate with breakfast fast food. Ever since it introduced the Egg McMuffin in 1972, the world's largest burger flipper has set the bar for convenient morning meals for people on the go. The Waffle Taco will likely be Taco Bell's signature breakfast item. The taco-shaped waffle wrapped around a sausage patty, scrambled eggs and cheese turned heads when it was tested in select locations late last year. However, it's just one of the many items wooing commuters. Naturally there will be eggy breakfast burritos and grilled tacos with either bacon or sausage. The A.M. Crunchwrap gives a morning spin to the Crunchwrap Supreme by blanketing hash browns, scrambled eggs and either bacon or sausage in a pressed and folded flour tortilla. Tough Competition McDonald's is struggling these days, but it's still a fierce competitor when it comes to the first meal of the day. Just ask Burger King (BKW), which finds itself copying McDonald's more often than not, including hotcakes served with sausage and the Egg McMuffin. Just ask Wendy's (WEN), which retreated from its nationwide breakfast menu a couple of years ago. It's starting to work its way back in by introducing breakfast in some markets. Even Starbucks (SBUX) has been feeling the threat of McDonald's as the burger giant beefs up its McCafe line, offering guests drive-thru convenience that many Starbucks locations cannot. Earlier this month Starbucks ran a three-day promotion where it offered free coffee to anyone ordering a breakfast sandwich. It was meant to remind customers that it offers more than just java. Breakfast seems like an easy decision for a fast food leader. Who wouldn't want to milk more revenue out of a location by extending its operating hours? However, with Wendy's coming

Fast-food chains are making a formidable attempt at adapting to shifting consumer tastes. For decades, a solid cheeseburger at a low price had been enough to drive the rapid expansion of the businesses throughout the United States and overseas, but now it appears that fast eaters want more. With new products such as a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, and health-oriented flatbread sandwiches, The Wendy's Company (NASDAQ: WEN ) is proving to be a formidable competitor to the long-reigning number one chain, McDonald's (NYSE: MCD ) . The stock is feeling full as well, up more than 35%in 12 months. The question now is, can the stock still move higher as management continues its renovation, or has this opportunity passed?
- [By Alyssa Oursler]
Since Jan. 1, McDonald’s stock has climbed only 11% vs. 19% for the S&P 500 and 17% for the Dow. On top of that, fast-food rivals Wendy’s (WEN) and Burger King Worldwide (BKW) have climbed 54% and 20%, respectively, with only Yum Brands (YUM) falling behind.

Since the start of the week, small cap nuclear fuel stock USEC Inc (NYSE: USU) more than doubled for investors, something that has not happened for investors in uranium stocks like Uranium Resources, Inc (NASDAQ: URRE), Denison Mines Corp (NYSEMKT: DNN), Ur-Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT: URG) and Uranerz Energy Corp (NYSEMKT: URZ). To recap: USEC Inc closed at the $6 level on Friday, but then it surged to the $15 level on Monday only to open at the $10 level on Tuesday when it ultimately closed at $12.46. So what in the world is going on with USEC Inc and is it time to revisit nuclear fuel and uranium stocks?
- [By Bryan Murphy]
If you listened to my bullish calls from December 27th and/or February 24th about Uranerz Energy Corp. (NYSEMKT:URZ), Uranium Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ:URRE), and Ur-Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT:URG), then congratulations - you're now up as much as 50%, depending on when you stepped into a trade, and which stock you chose. Now get out. See, as well as URZ and URG have done and are doing (URRE not so much), it looks like the short-term rally I first spotted a little more than a couple of months ago has fully run its course, and now these names are setting up a pullback.

I was so scarred by their subsequent crash that when I heard a portfolio manager rhapsodizing about the recent performance of Plug Power Inc (NSDQ: PLUG), Fuelcell Energy Inc (NSDQ: FCEL) and Capstone Turbine Corp (NSDQ: CPST), I could scarcely believe it. These were names that I had not heard in years, names that many investors would like to forget. Indeed, even with the recent run-up in their share prices, the value of these firms today is just a small fraction of what it was back then.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Matt DiLallo]
Goldcorp isn't alone in cutting its capital budget amid falling metal prices. Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX ) , for example, is slashing $1.9 billion from its capital budget over the next two years so that it can maintain balance sheet flexibility in light of falling copper and gold prices. It's the same story at Teck Resources (NYSE: TCK ) , which is also reducing its capital expenditures over the next two years. Teck is cutting $150 million out of its original $2 billion capex budget. Meanwhile, the company is targeting to keep its sustaining capex to $500 million next year. These moves are to better align these companies with current market conditions, as well as to improve cash flow and strengthen balance sheets.
- [By David Smith]
Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold (NYSE: FCX ) , the world's largest publicly traded copper producer, has reported reduced earnings for the first quarter of this year. But with copper sales surprising on the upside -- albeit amid lower prices -- the company was able to top the consensus per-share earnings estimate of the analysts who follow it.
- [By Matt DiLallo]
Gold investors weren't the only ones having a rough year. Other commodities such as silver and copper have been sinking this year as well, sending top stocks such as Silver Wheaton (NYSE: SLW ) and Freeport McMoRan (NYSE: FCX ) down by double digits. Again, looking at the chart, you can see a pretty big correlation between falling commodity prices and the subsequent fall in the price of each stock.
- [By Selena Maranjian]
Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold (NYSE: FCX ) shed 8% and yields about 4.5%. The world's largest publicly traded copper producer has been hurt by falling copper and gold prices, and a deadly mine disasterin Indonesia led to the closing of one of its mines (also one of the world's biggest mines). That mine has resumed production, though not yet at full capacity. Meanwhile, slowing growth in China and labor strikes haven't helped. The company diversified its operations considerably when it bought a pair of oil and gas producers. The stock seems rather undervalued.
